Servers based on a Graphical Unit Interface

Overview

Some servers requires a graphical environment to be set up in order to run them. Most of the time, those game servers have to be installed on a Windows OS, like CoD: Modern Warfare 3 or Brink.

This page will explain you how to prepare your Linux box to host this kind of server.

The RCON Tool doesn't work on this kind of server.

Let's do this!

You have to install the following packages on your box:

  • wine, for running WinApps (we recommend to install Wine 1.4.1)
  • xorg
  • hal
  • xvfb

@Root:

aptitude install xorg hal xvfb

WineHQ

@Root:

aptitude build-dep wine
wget http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/wine/source/1.4/wine-1.4.1.tar.bz2
tar -jxvf wine-1.4.1.tar.bz2
cd wine-1.4.1
./configure
make depend
make
make install

Start Command

  • Add :
    xvfb-run -a your_exec_here

    at the very beginning of the Start Command of your game server.

  • If your game executable is a Windows one, add :
    xvfb-run -a wine your_exec_here.exe

    instead.
